Situational Awareness

Around the holidays it sometimes is hard to remember to be aware of your surroundings. We get caught up in the spirit of the day. We forget to be aware of a threat.

Mary was in a store looking for that last-minute item. She was in a hurry and luckily found what she was looking for. She was headed towards the checkout when two women started arguing there. Time was important but was it more important than her safety. No.

She went to the back of the store. Out of harm’s way. Luckily employes of the store calmed things down enough that the two ladies went their separate ways. It could have gone differently. Even though Mary was not involved she could have become collateral damage.

Did she do the right thing?

She waited until the possibility of getting involved went away. By going to the back of the store she lessened the opportunity of that threat. In this situation, she did the right thing. The little time lost was worth it.

Pay attention to what is going on around you. Avoidance is the best way to win.

Stay safe.
